When all else fails, revert to horses. 
Faced with a lack of inspiration to do much of anything, I went back to my artistic roots and rendered a horse so I could practice working on hair. I'm not entirely happy with the mane and tail, but it's a start.

I like the mane texture! It has a hair like quality that is clean and barley managed, as if you just washed and shampoo'ed the horse. Wonderful!
