The Eagle Has Fallen by kittenwylde The Eagle Has Fallen by kittenwylde
This is a scene that has a story with it. But I'm behind on my writing, thanks to getting sicker than crap every time I turn around. I am PISSED OFF! At least I got the render done. This one was quite an adventure, let me tell you. It started out with a mysterious hole that showed up in the figure's forehead and progressed to crashing my computer, complete with a BSOD. Yes, that's right, a Blue Screen of Death. So I had to rebuild everything and try again. This attempt rendered with only two black spots on poor Delaney's head, which was a vast improvement over the crater.

Anyway, I'll give you a bit of background, and find a way to work in the proper story later.
The character is Nika Finmoralyn. I haven't quite figured out her title yet, but she's second in command of the Shining Home Division of the Golden Eagle Guard. She has just completed a survey of the capital city (as yet unnamed) and discovered that the Golden Eagle Dominion is pretty much dead. The Shining Ones are all dead, victims of the Blue Death. So are nine out of ten people that used to live in the city. She returned to the Palace to make her report, but there was no one to report to, because almost all of the Palace residents were either dead or fled. (Yes, this is a rather bleak world, at the moment.) Right about the time she came back, the payroll officer was looking through the barracks for someone--anyone--to pay. Between them they decided they might as well take a good chunk of the gold each and set off in search of a new life, somewhere far away from the suffering brought about by the Blue Death. But you see, a big bag of gold is really, really heavy...

Good grief -- a "mysterious hole that showed up in the figure's forehead" ???  That sounds like a digital plague, lol.  The render turned out beautifully in the end, but I'm sorry it brought along the BSOD!  (Maybe your PC caught the Blue Death??)  :giggle:

I think you're right, it was the plague all along!

She's looking a bit blue herself. I hope that she's not ... unwell .... It is a striking and evocative scene.

That is indeed a honkin' big bag o' gold.

Wonder why you were getting holes, of all things?

Beats me, I thought it was a texture error, but switching textures didn't work. It definitely had something to do with the hair, though. And she's not sick, she's a freak and immune.

Oh, I'll bet you ran into a version of the issue that Iray has with some skullcaps. Not all of them and not often, but their transmaps wind up reacting weirdly to the characters and the lighting. There are some that can be counted on to do this, but I don't remember which ones. Depending on whether or not the hair can tolerate it, if you lower cutout opacity to zero, it can get rid of the issue.

Thanks, I'll try that. Because now it's happening a lot more often.

Great job, you really captured the feel of exhaustion, both physical and mental, along with the look of 'what now?'

Thanks! I'm glad I got the look right. As for the story... there will be more, but I can't swear to how many or how often. I need to write more.
